Wer?
Canis Ledus stammt aus Norddeutschland, wo die Spezies die Flachheit des Landes genießt. Die Luftfeuchtigkeit sowie die Meeresbrise sind für das Überleben und Gedeihen dieses Wildtiers essenziell.
Obwohl viele versucht haben, dieses edle Wesen zu domestizieren, macht seine ungewöhnliche Feindseligkeit gegenüber von Kindern – bedingt durch eine primitive und instinktive Angst vor kleinen Menschen – es ungeeignet als Haustier. Dieser bedauerliche Zustand wird derzeit durch angemessene Aussetzung unter Aufsicht kompetenter Tierärzte behandelt.
Den Menschen zu helfen ist der höchste Wunsch und die größte Freude im Leben von diesem erstaunlichen Exemplars. Durch hartnäckige Entschlossenheit, Schlagfertigkeit und pure Kühnheit behauptet sie, dass alles möglich ist. Ihr Revierruf klingt normalerweise wie ein freundliches: „Wie kann ich helfen?"

Anything nice I can say about Mother will be discounted as nepotism, however I must mention this woman's unwavering focus that makes her such an effective keyboard-clickity-clacker, she delights both in the Click as well as the Clack! Though I'm starving on an hourly basis, it does not seem to affect her dedication to the Shiny Windows. Please let the Authorities know that I am but a poor puppy that needs high-quality food.

I got the opportunity to work with Leda at Grover. She was my mentor during that time, and I just have good words to describe her. She is the most brilliant, honest, and funny person I've met, she helped me not only improve my technical skills, but to overcome personal challenges and blockers that didn't allow me to truly trust myself. Blockers that I didn't even know I had and she cleverly pointed out, always from a place of respect and empathy. She taught me so much, and even though we are not working together anymore, I know I am taking these learnings with me wherever I go.

You know what's so lovely about literature?
Every book isn't just a small window into its author's mind, it's also a mirror that allows you to see your own issues.
Depending on how far you are in therapy, you might see Jolene as a villain with no redeeming qualities or an alcoholic who's drinking away her own perceived inadequacy and whose lying and cheating stems from a mountain of shame so high, she can't see how she fits in this world. But make no mistake, whether or not any one person deserves forgiveness is really not up to you. It's sad that we are deluded into thinking we know someone from our vague idea of who they are, armed with simple-sounding half-truths like "Actions speak louder than words" and our notion of what the word "psychotic" actually means. Don't get me wrong, you decide if you want to forgive someone based on how they've wronged you, that is your right. But if you have an opinion on how this book should end, this is no longer a case of self-defense.
Natalie Sue makes it all the more clear by introducing a vivid and complex set of characters who are lovable and flawed, in a way most people are. They know each other from work, but they don't know each other well enough. And chapter, after meticulous chapter, she lets you in on their deepest and most shameful secrets, so that you understand and relate to how they perceive the world and most importantly, themselves.
It's nothing short of masterful how she weaves in cultural differences and trauma into a picture that could have been a very successful piece of romance fiction, but because of how empathetic and wise she is, it's so much more than that.
